How can I become a Christian?

Becoming a Christian is the most important decision you can make. The Bible tells us how:

1. Mankind has a problem. We all have sinned.

Romans 3:10-12, and 23

As it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one. There is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside"… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (NASB)

2. The result (or consequence) of sin is death.

Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

3. Jesus died for our sins. He paid the price for our sin nature.

Romans 5:8

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

4. Through Jesus' death, we are forgiven of our sin debt to God and are given eternal life through faith in Jesus.

Romans 10:9-10

"that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in
salvation." (NASB)

5. How do we know that Jesus will hear us and will accept us?

Romans 10:13
"…for whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." (NASB)

6. Salvation through Jesus brings us into a peaceful relationship with God our Father.

Romans 5:1
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." (NASB)

7. If you receive Jesus as your Lord, God wants you to know that you are saved and that you will go to Heaven.

1 John 5:13
"These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal

A Sinner's Prayer for Salvation

God knows your heart when you pray. If you are truly sorry for your sin, you will want to be forgiven. If you are willing to turn from your sin and receive Jesus as Lord, simply tell Him. In your own words, tell Jesus that you are sorry for your sin and that you want Him to be your Savior and Lord. Then, thank Him for saving you and giving you His free gift of eternal life.

What's Next?

Everyone who is truly sorry (repentant) for their sins, turns away from living a sin-filled life to a new life made possible only by Jesus. Now that you are a Christian, you will want to know more about Jesus. Join a local church that uses the Bible as the guide for all faith and ministry. There, you will worship with other believers, you will learn God's Word (Bible Study) and you will discover opportunities to serve Jesus by serving others. Daily, you will want to speak (Prayer) with Jesus.

These basic spiritual steps will help grow your new relationship with Jesus. But, there is much more to come. God's goal for your life is to spread His Kingdom through your life. He wants you to become an example of His character, an extension of His ministry and a demonstration of His power to change your life.
